Target group:
Master’s students, any discipline.
Open also for Bachelor’s level students.

No prerequisites.

Learning goals:
To enhance the student’s understanding of the different tasks and challenges in management and leadership. Leadership is multi-faceted and here focus is on human resource management (HRM), change management and the handling of conflicts.
The course provides the student with a broader understanding of the roles and responsibilities in personal leadership on different management levels as well as strategic leadership. In addition to this, the aim is to bring an understanding of the challenges in leading multicultural teams in global organizations, sometimes as remote-teams.

 

Course description:

The course covers the following topics:         

  • Framing the field of leadership.
  • Basics in HRM, fundamentals of leadership and organizational  knowledge transfer.
  • Personnel rewards, appraisals,
  • mentoring, coaching as tools in leading a global team.
  • Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The leadership roles and responsibilities in furthering CSR and issues related to business ethics.
  • Change management associated with growth, but also downsizing and restructuring businesses in economic crises.
  • Health, safety and environmental issues in everyday leadership.

Asynchronously from January 26th to April 16th, 2021.

Assessment:
The course will be graded based on a portfolio of shorter assignments and a course essay, 6 to 9 pages, at the end of the course (for bachelor’s level 4 to 7 pages).

Grade 1 – 2
The student does all the assignments in time and the portfolio & essay show a basic understanding of the topics and at least some reflections on the issues at hand.

Grade 3 – 4
The student does all the assignments in time. The portfolio & essay include meaningful descriptions of key aspects of global leadership. Furthermore, the student writes own reflections relevant to the topics. The student shows ability to connect the theories to work-life situations in her own field.

Grade 5
The student does all the assignments in time. The portfolio & essay show a familiarity with the theories and topics introduced in the course. Furthermore, the student can reflect in a mature way around the topics. The student shows ability to connect the theories to work-life situations in her own field and can also discuss pro's and con's with the perspectives in relation to a realistic work-situation.

If you are a student and study via Campusonline this course is for free. Costs for Open UAS is 15€/cr. You can complete a number of credits during a semester with a single payment of 100 euro.
